Another installment for #FoundationFriday. By now, you’ve definitely heard the hype surrounding Fenty Beauty, Rihanna’s new makeup line. While I don’t claim to be a fan anymore (I miss her island-girl vibes), I definitely hopped on the bandwagon with this one. The line is absolutely beautiful, the packaging is super contemporary/cool (in true Rihanna fashion), and the formulas are top notch. The stand-out, for me, is the Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation, which I have added to my growing list of favorites.
The most defining feature is, of course, the wide range of shades available. With 40 colors to choose from, it’s impossible to not find your perfect match, which I was surprisingly able to do with one swatch (I guess I’m getting pretty good at this 😉). I am currently wearing the shade 330 which is a warm-toned caramel hue. The series is so diverse, however, that I could easily purchase 3 colors that would all suit me just fine.
Now, let’s talk about what’s inside the bottle. If you’re looking for a mattifying formula to combat oiliness, look no further! Within my first week of purchasing it, I was able to wear it consistently from about 6:00am-6:00pm (daily) without blotting once. I kid you not, there was not one bit of shine on my face. I was floored by the length of wear. Despite the fact that it feels incredibly lightweight, it gives a medium-to-full coverage while maintaining a natural matte finish. I will say though, like Laura Mercier’s Flawless Fusion Ultra-Longwear Foundation, this formula sets quickly, so prepare to work fast! Otherwise, you’ll have a hard time blending it out. I favored a brush for application this time around, but a damp beauty blender works well too—especially if you prefer medium coverage or want to build it up. I do NOT recommend using a dry beauty blender as it will soak up all the product and is almost impossible to blend (speaking from trial and error here).
What else is there to note? Oil-free? Check. Cruelty-free? Check. Richly pigmented? Check. You get the picture. It’s an excellent foundation. I will note that those with really dry skin may not love this formula quite as much as the rest of us do. I have combination skin, but I can pair Pro Filt’r with any hydrating primer (Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer is a good one) to ensure that I don’t end up dry or flaky. Worth a try if you have dryness but still want that matte finish. This product is a hit. If Rihanna’s collection was this good at launch, what’s next is sure to please.
