Guys, I am in a serious book slump. Last year, I was getting through at least a book a week. This year, for obvious reasons (you try getting through a novel with a newborn screaming for your attention 😂), I’ve only read one. One! I think part of the problem is that I’m not excited by anything. Since I only get to read in short spurts these days, I really need something that’s going to keep my attention.
Right now, I’m in the middle of Maya Banks’ Linger and I absolutely hate it. I go through phases when it comes to genres and I was really in the mood for a nice junky romance read with a too-good-to-be-true male lead, a sickeningly perfect plot, and some “rich” love scenes. No such luck here. The story is just too cheesy and I can’t get over the “woe is me” main character, Emily. Barf. Also, I think I have a problem believing in a threesome relationship where everyone is happy. Seriously? Ms. Banks, I’ve seen you do better.
Still, as anyone who knows me will tell you, I can never leave a book unfinished. So while I struggle to get through this text, I’m hoping someone can recommend my next great romantic read—the steamier the better … but PLEASE, for the love of God, give me some interesting subtext.
If I get nothing, I think I’m giving romance reads a rest for a while (that’s how bad this is). I have a bunch of dystopian and classic novels that I’ve been meaning to get to. Hopefully, my next good read is already hiding somewhere in my downloads. Wish me luck!
