The Void

I’ve been blinded—

Not by the unflattering white lights of the room

Burning a hollow into my heart,

But by the empty promises

Of gentler speech and deeper connection.

Hateful words are hurled through the air,

Filling up the vacancy and

Ricocheting like boomerangs—

Deepening wounds that space, time and feeble attempts at “forever”

Will never heal.

They are permanent,

Not like us—

Not like we who are merely fragments of our former selves,

Colliding,

But never connecting.

I’ve been blinded—

Left with a bruised heart and calloused hands,

Feeling my way out of this void that we’ve created

Together.
